Default Electrical Daemon, Suggestions pleaseee guys

please read all this !

Okay I'll cut to the chase. I have a 00 SI with a US 00 Type R motor Running OBD1. I am having a serious electrical issue and I am asking for any suggestions at all.

The symptoms are simliar to alternator problems but I am nearly positive it's not. The whole electrical system is flickering, even when the revs are coming down, my lights / and whole electrical system is flickering light / bright.. I can even feel the car slightly cut out at times.

It's not just I rev it up, the lights get bright and when it comes down its dim. When I have load on the car its flickering, when I clutch in its flickering ETC The only time it seems to stay one way is when I clutch out while in gear... compression breaking or whatever.. thats the only time it seems stable.

I have installed a stupid after market grounding system out of hopes of something, and grounded out everything to the max. No help.

Can anyone recommend ANYTHING to check / a certain ground to check, anything at all would be so much appreciated.

This has been stumping me for literally weeks and its blowing my mind.. If you can offer ideas of things to check, etc You = god to me.

I am curious of this also... the distributor is plugged in as one big plug, which most obd1's are 2 plugs i believe... and im running obd1 ecu... could this be having an effect on whats going on?

As long as the pins are correctly assigned on your distributor, you should be ok. Im running an obd2 distributor (1 plug) on my 98hatch with a obd1 ecu. Shouldnt matter.
Sounds like your gettiing voltage spikes in your cars electrical system. I would check voltage at the battery when its flickering.
If its too low, check voltage and ground at the alternator. You may have a bad connection or just a bad alternator.
If its too high,id say your voltage regulator is faulty since its not doing its job apparently.

Hey I appreciate the response.

I am leaning towards what you are saying about the voltage regulator... Do you know if any other bseries alternator will work or is the same as an ITR alternator ?

So should I just put a volt meter on the positive terminal and rev the car up and look for voltage jumps ? should it stay constant at the battery when revving it up / letting it drop etc ? or is there normal variance, and then abnormal ? Same question for the alternator should it be a constant when revving also or

We have a test stand that will load the battery and force the alternator to go full output. You do this while revving up to about 3k rpms...

Also make sure your idle is up to spec. Low idle= slow spinning alternator= dim lights at idle/low batter voltage...
Full alternator output is probably around 80-100 amps and 13.5-14.0 volts...
Check at the battery and the alternator. Also make sure all terminals on the battery and alternator are clean and free from corrosion. Dirty terminals can cause voltage drops and make it look like a bad alternator.
Auto parts stores usually check them for free, Id try them first

a bad connection to the battery will do this.
a bad battery may do this
a bad voltage regulator may do this
a slipping alternator belt may do this

a volt meter should tell you what's going on when this happens. if you see over 14.2 at any time then the voltage regulator is bad.
