Does anyone know if a CRX Si tach will properly (accurately) display the whole RPM scale that a B16 can go to, like up to 9000 RPM..? I'm buying an Si and doing a B16 swap but I want to find out if making the tach look right for a B16 is as easy as getting a different (higher RPM) gauge face for the stock tach, or will I have to get a JDM cluster of some sort... Anyone have any thoughts or personal experience?
Stock tachs are usually inaccurate. They may indicate up to 10,000 rpm but they'll be 'off' a bit. I'm lucky in that 8k on my tach is almost exactly 8k on the engine. But I don't expect much more than that.
My friend has an 88 CRX DX with a GSR in it, it's tach goes a tad over 8k but it's not accurate at all. I chipped the ECU with an 4500/8500 Spoon program and sometimes it looks like it only goes that little past 8k when it taps off the limiter. He doesn't intend to shift that high but the tach is just that little bit off.
Just put a 3.75" Autometer in your car and be happy with CORRECT numbers..
Mine's not too big, not too small, and I'll bet a black face would make it seems alot cleaner too
