ECU + Vtec question......please help
What's the difference between the ECU of a D16Y7 engine and an ECU of a D16Z7?
Is the ECU of the D16Y7 able to manage the vtec by adding wires and plugging then inside it or it simply doesn't work and i absolutly need an ECU of a D16Z7?
My problem: i 've install a 95 Si (EX) engine in my 1997 LX....and i've kept my OBD2 harness for it.
Solution 1: Buy an OBD1 harness and use it with a P28 ECU
Solution 2: Buy an ECU for a 96-00 civic Si (EX) and add some extra wires to connect the Vtec
Wich way is CHEAPER? Or if anyone have a better idea to make the Vtec work without spending a lot of $$$ please let me know.
I do accept "Ghetto idea" lol
Someone told me it's possible to activate the vtec using a switch plug directly the the 12 volt.....i know it's ridiculous...but i don't mind doing it.
If anyone know how to do that....i would appreciate if you give me some explanations,
Thanx in advance guys

cause i have a 96 lx accord and got a 96 h22.. which i need to install vtec.. and i am obd2.. i was told that all i had to do is add the three to four wires and a vtec ecu..
or
buy a obd2-obd1 harness which i can get for 150 and plug in and boom there i am obd1.. hmm but what bout the vtec still? i gues i have to do the wires no matter what?

Z7? What is a Z7? N-E-way, the Y7 ECU does not look for the VTEC soleniod so, no you cannot just add the wiring.
The Y8 (EX ecu) is what you would need plus the wiring, plus the VTEC head to have a VTEC motor.
Your solution to your problem is this: ODB1 harness.....the Distributor and injectors need specific wiring. You can convert the wiring yourself, there are places on the web that have directions but, you need to do this to get your engine working properly.
Most cost effective is to make your own OBDII to OBDI harness.
