Default ECU troubles: bogging, and no power !

got my ecu rechipped today (xs program on b18c) the thing is, it will bog severly at low rpms in most gears (2000-3000rpms) were it will pick up.

Also past VTEC till redline it has no ***** whatsoever....wtf could be wrong? oil levels were good, ecu was plugged in correctly, etc

are you saying it ran better when the ecu was stock?

well i had the stock p72 on, but gave it to a friend (ran the best of all)

i then found a p72 with a mugen chip for dirt cheap (ran very good as well) considering vtec was at 5700, no 2ndarys....it was a nice program

i sent the p72/mugen chipped ECU to kenji last week for the XS program, and got it in today...all i can say is, trash. now im thinking something else is wrong, as the xs program runs the stock engagements with a bump in fuel and timing.

but what could be wrong?

well the mugen program is meant for a single butterfly intake manifold.....so unless your running a Skunk2 manifold, the mugen program isn't really the one to use with a GSR intake manifold; it doesn't operate the 2ndary butterflies.

You should look into a vtec controller.....

i suspect the XS program is crappy or somthing, bad burn perhaps....I'm sure Kenji will fix whatever the problems are you're having.

so true, but i basically got the p72/mugen chipped ecu for next to nothing from another close friend.....even with the GS-R cams and dual runner manifold, the program was still rather nice...but since i didnt have plans on modyfing the IM or running other camshafts, i opted for the xs proggy.

ya im sure he`ll take care of it

thanks for the help

eg6ajk has a PYR chip. It is supposed to be very good on mild setups such as yours. it's not real rich and gets good gas mileage. I bought it, but I have yet to install it.

Also, JUN's program is pretty strong, speaking from experience, and runs pretty lean before VTEC.

then again maybe my mind is playing tricks on me?

when using the mugenp72 vtec had a 'push' feeling to it (probably due to the messy curve were vtec engaged at)

whilst the XS proggy, the curve is much nicer and thus making it feel as if there is a lack of power? then again when the 2ndarys open up, it still feels the same? oh well, just my luck.

well from what I've been told, the XS chip is very very mild. Have you tried to compare it to a stock p72 yet? I know you have had the p72 before, but I mean like plug in the XS, run it for a day, then swap to the stock ECU and see how it feels then.

well stock p72 vs mugen p72, the mugen proggy felt better throughout the band (yes including the low end, even with no 2ndarys) nothing huge, but i felt a slight difference, which was nice.

now with the XS proggy, it doesnt even feel as good as the stock p72 did, let alone the mugen p72.....so there HAS to be something wrong with the chip or something, i cant imagine the XS prog being normal in the way its acting with me (highend feel as if the air is restricted, and a severe bogging issue in the low RPM'S)
