Default ecu

im about to buy a ls swap to go in my 96 hatch, the only thing im worried about is that its obd1 and i wanna stick to obd 2 is there any way that i can do that without getting a jumper harness. like changing the ecu to an obd 2 ecu rather than the one he s gonna give me from the obd 1 motor

The car is already OBD2 so stick with OBD2 if you like. Just use the harness off the car, why would u need a jumper harness if the car is already obd2?

you need and OBD2a P75 ecu. Shouldn't be too hard to find one, watch ebay. If you are going to use that ecu with an OBD1 engine, you will need to put an oil pump/ CSF sensor and lower timing belt covers from and OBD2 LS engine on your car or else you will always have a check engine light and trouble codes for the CSF sensor open circuit.

If you really want to do it right you should just get a complete OBD2 engine because the PCV system is completly different and between OBD1 and OBD2 and any descent smog tech (definatley a referee in California) will notice that right away. FYI in most states (again definatley in California) in order for an engine change to be legal the engine has to come from the same year or newer vehicle. 1996 car need a 1996or newer engine and all of the emissions components. 1996 car with 1994 engine is not legal. they don't care what engine you use, as long as it comes from the same year or newer car. 1996 honda civic with 1998 chevy 350 engine is okay, but 1996 honda civic with 1995 acura integra engine is not legal.

PM me if you have any questions.
