Dumb question about adding oil..A little long
Changed my oil the other day and didnt really have a flat place to check the level. I knew it was close so I went ahead and drove to work the next day. After work I checked my level and needed to top it off. I always warm up my car for a few minutes before I leave so I decided to add oil when the engine was running.
When I took the oil cap off I could feel air coming out so I decided to turn the car off rather than have oil spray all over my engine bay.
Is it normal to have some air coming out of there while running, or do I have blowby, or F'd up Vaccuum lines?
engine is b16 from hmo with rebuilt head. I re-used all the coolant and air lines on the intake mani rather than replace them all.
thanks in advance for any help.

Hahaha, my friend has a D16Z6 in his 92 VX.... Along time ago we ran the **** out of it with nitrous with a DX tranny... That was the stupidest **** ever.. At the time i was rebuilding the Si and getting the rear bracket holes helicoiled. Those gears were so long you could cruise on the freeway in 3rd.. 2nd would max out at 82mph. Back to my point tho, we're at school now so he only drives it when we go home but it burns oil like crazy because of the burnt rings. Also my friend is really lazy about doing oil changes.. He just adds in a little oil at a time and has been doing this for like 8000 miles. Last weekend when we went home he added a quart while the motor was on at like 12:30 at night in the freezing cold. It sprayed all over the place and while he was scrambling to clean up what sprayed out half of the quart went over the intake manifold. hehehe It is normal to have air flowing through the valve cover.... you probably know this but that is just your PCV system taking out the hydrocarbon filled crankcase air.. It also could be blow-by if there is a lot.... The best test that you could do is a leakdown... That will really let you know what is going on with your motor.. If you are losing oil i would first check your PCV valve... A bad one of those will just suck your oil back up into the manifold to be burned. Really if you are getting bad blow-by your oil is going down, your rings may be going. Again a leakdown test will tell you just about everything... You got the motor from Hondamotorsonline??? A few of my friend did too, A B16 that lasted four months before the thrust washer fell out and destroyed the bottom end and a GSR that i never even put in because the block was cracked and the 3 driverside upper motor mount to block bolts were stripped out. **** HMO!!! If you wanna see what else I've said or my friends just search my participated topics.... My friend with the B16 from them name is jdm88crx and my friend TC that got the GSR from them is Rukkus233... That's just if you wanna check them out... Laterz

You do know that Honda states the oil level should be checked only after leaving the car off for at least 5 minutes right?
If not the reasons are 1. to allow the oil to collect in the oil pan again and 2. to make sure that you don't spray oil all over the place due to the positive head pressure.
