Default Drum Brakes?

Hi I have always wanted to know why Disc Brakes are superior to Drum Brakes, can anyone tell me how Drum Brakes work and why it's not as great as Disc? Any help is appreciated, I've seen sooo many cars that have discs in the front, but drums in the back, even NEWER models, I understand that Disc is more effective, that's why it's in the front. Thanks.

Disks offer superior feel over drums because they're not self-actuating. A drum brake tends to keep braking once it gets started. Disks have a much more linear feel to them. Also, I think disks offer better fade resistance, not to mention they are easier to service.

disks brakes are a far more advanced design wich offer a lot more breaking force.
rear drums are still used in the back since the back dont do much of the breaking.

From what I have heard and read...... drums are stronger at breaking!!

Strange eh??

The problem is that they are very poor at discipating heat... so they lose effectiveness very very quicky!

Actually, a drum brake is more complicated than a disk brake. But, a disk brake is a more effective design and easier to maintain.
