Default DOWNTIME: oil pump failure

Well my car was running for 2 days before the horror story took place. I just got done replacing axles, a thermo, and installing my new set of rocker arms. With replacing the axles I could not even drive my car over 5 mph with out there being a horible shake/vibration!! So I cored those axles and got some ABS ones to replace them. With that said my car was running for the 1st time in about 4 months with vtec (.25over ITR pistions, C5 block, P&P,tit. retainers,68mm TB,ect.) My car was running in top notch in my opinion other than it could of used a tune. But on the second day of my car being back together I was on my way home and it starting knocking very badly about 1/4 mile away from my home. So i get home and shut it off immediatly. So the next day I got out and check it before work in the mourning and there is about a 8 inch diameter puddle of oil on the ground (hope the block is still solid!!!) and when i drain the oil there is all sorts of bearing metal on the end of my magnetic drainplug
and it appears for some reason my filter is almost dry.<<<those being the bads. But one thing I am thankful for is that it is not "ceased" I can still turn the engine over by hand and it feels perfectly normal. With all that said is there any advice or ideas on what actually happened?? (I actually think it is oil pump failure) but I would appreciate any help, thanks guys....... in the meantime I better start saving$$-drew

Did your oil light ever come on? do you have an oil press guage? When my oil pump shattered the oil light came on immediately and the guage went to 0 (duh), but I shut it off as soon as the light came on and I saved the internals. I didnt leak any oil though, where did your oil come from? Take off the oil pan and look for chunks of ****. You probably messed up your internals if you ran it with no oil for a little while.

its possible that something got into one of the oil galleries blocking off flow, and you would still have oil pressure (correct me if im wrong). just a guess. i wouldnt try and crank this motor any more though

No I havnt found where the oil leak from yet. Right now I am in the process of working mad overtime because either way I know a gut feeling this is going to be expensive. So in 2 weeks it will be time for the teardown again. (grrrr I have only had this motor for 9 months)

do you know which side of the engnie the oil came from passenger side or driver side.

Theres not much that can go wrong with these engine other than the oil pump faiures like people said above they usually go bad right way and dont really drip oil but rather theres no pressure. If you have leak of some sort then something externally is leaking and causing the problem.

the backside of the oil pan, straight down from the oil filter. So basically in the center of the motor
