gck axles finally went south(now with pic0
as many may already know, i have had these gck axles for a couple of years with no problems until tonight.i went to the local 1/8 mile to do some heads up racing.i was the only import there and was planning on running the 6.99 heads up class.i was really excited about racing with all the domestics.none of them even had mufflers and would have been blown away if i had gotten to run.i was told that this was by far the best hooking track around so i thought i would be pretty aggresive and back off of it until i got it right.well,anyway,i got a good burnout,had the tire pressure pretty high,put it on the two-step at 6000rpm and clunk!the passenger side snaped in two at the tranny.the car did not even move.the starter was freaking out and pointing when he saw the oil on the ground.when he went for the oil dry,i thought something really bad happened but it wasn't.so when i got out to push the car,the track was so sticky,i pulled my foot right out of the shoe.well,good thing for the lifetime warranty.i can't wait to see what they do about it.

holiday beach.really nice track and boy does it hook!8 second cars were pulling the front tires.they told me you should go .3 seconds faster than any other track around-IF YOU LIKE YOUR PARTS,DON'T GO THERE!

i think launch on the low side i.e., 6000 harms the drivetrain more than launching on the high side like 7000-8000.

yeah,i usually use 7000,but it had been spinning really bad the last time out

back to advance today and the lady said"boy you broke that one clean off".then she looked at the ticket and punched in a few keys on the computer and said "ok,it'll be here on tuesday".
i thought that was pretty cool.free replacement aftere two years,no questions asked.i need to find a way to break the other side.
i think i am going to buy me a backup set.i bought some for a customer the other day and they where only $206 with a core.i just took some old broken d15 axles for a core and did not have a problem.

does anyone know what it indicates about the metal if it is a clean break, or all jagged and cracked??
i had a set of aftermarket axles that broke the first time i used the slicks with them... they broke all jagged, and the teeth all chipped off, i assumed the metal was hardened too much and made it brittle...
i got a set of gator racing axles, and have had no problems since...

When that **** happen to me on a test & tune night, it was so embrassing.
but hey look at it this way, I stick with the old saying. "If your ain't breaking parts then your not making enough power"
Hope this did not cost ya too much to get it towed.

How much power are GCKs made to handle? They seem like a good company, and if you're putting down the #s in your sig, they will be more than enough for me.

My opinion on the break "pattern" is as follows:
I would assume that a clean break like TurboTypeR had was more due to the fact of the sheer traction his tires had on the surface, more of a tortional load.
For a rough, jagged break, it make sense that it would be cause from a side load, possibly wheel hop or some kind of suspension alignment problem.

actually,no. there were a few that gave me a few funny looks,but for the most part,most of them were very interested in the car and were wanting to see it run

Holiday Beach. It is a pretty good track and hooks well. I cut a 1.7 60ft with the same axles. The domestic guys look at the fast imports pretty funny. My wife got their attention with a 100mph run thru the lights in her hatchback at 12psi. She felt very safe with the cage, thanks Danny. As a matter of fact she sunk a sleeve on that run too.
