DOHC installation
I am reading the Chilton's manual on the installation of the cams after replacing a burned valve and it says to put the "UP" arrow on the cam sprocket at the 12 o'clock position. Theoretically, when both sprockets are pointed up, the mark on the one tooth of each sprocket should point to each other.
Here's the problem. If I put the "UP" directly at 12 o'clock the tick marks on the teeth are off by a couple of degrees. If I line up the tick marks then the exhaust cam is at around 12:30 and the tick marks on the intake cam are around 11:30.
I would assume that having the "UP" mark as close to 12 is important but having the tick marks exactly opposite each other is critical.
Am I doing this right? Any suggestions?
