Does any know how the fuel pump relay works on a 83 Civic
I'm having a problem with my 83 Civic hatch back. I have identified the fuel pump is operational. I looked up the circuit diagram and found the relay tied to coil.
I'm confused about this set can anyone help clarify?

huh they dont just use a regular electromagnetic relay that swiches it on? when you turn the ignition swich it gves the car fuel pressure and allows the fuel pump to work.

That is what I used to think. This electric fuel pump is tied to a relay three pin. It is a solid state relay and one pin is tied to the (-) of the ignition coil.

My mother's 1985 Accord has the same type of relay. It uses the coil signal so the pump won't do anything unless the engine is running.
