Do I need valve spring retainers?
What is the purpose of titanium valve spring retainers? Cant I just use my stock ones with 105k miles? Can I use stock ones with CTR cams (with ITR springs)? Can I use stock ones with JUN 2 cams (with some beefy springs)?
Im wondering if the retainers are needed because the springs are so much stronger, they can break the stock ones. As for the RPM, I plan on keeping the 8k redline.
That is exactly why they are used. The titanium springs may be just a little too stiff for stock retainers... they may work, but surely not as reliable. I don't see any reason to upgrade retainers ONLY, I don't think that was what you were saying though either.

If the weight is too great, then it creates unnecessary stress due to inertia. A lighter retainer having less mass creates less stress upon itself and the rest of the valvetrain and thus is more resistant to breakage.
