Do i have a rev limiter?
sup,
i recently bought a 00' si w/ full suspension, full brake system, cam gears, and other bolt ons. the other day i mis shifted going into gear too..my rpm jumped up to 8300 and it was perfectly fine! How high does my b16a2 rev too? i was expecting only 8200! I cannot contact the previous owner to find out if he has removed the rev limiter, is there a way to find my highest rev without blowing my engine. Is there to find out if i even have a rev limiter on my si? thanks

by mis-shifting you are mechanically overriding the electronic rev-limiter. your engine will spin to whatever rpm it takes to match that gear once you let the clutch out. you don't need to remove the valve cover, just listen. if you hear ticking or any unnatural noise, you have done damage. if not, get a valve adjustment. the damage done by mis-shifting is severe (floating valves, etc.) and you will hear it. if you're really **** you can get a mechanic's stethoscope and listen but you should be able to hear any damage that's done just by opening the hood. i mis-shifted my gsr once and it didn't do any damage. just needed a valve adjustment. sometimes you luck out. best of luck.

yes your car has a rev limiter. It is there to be sure when you are acceerating you don't damage your engine by reving too high. If you down shift, say from 4th at 7000 rpms to 2nd; nothing will stop your engine rpms from going throgh the roof
