DIY Port and Polish PICS
POrted and polished the b16 head this week. Well, didnt really port, just polished the casting and knife edged the dividers. Also installed new valve seals and ITR valve springs. Itr intake cam is going in too, and ill chip the PR3 so ill be shifting at 8400-8600 now. This head is goin on my 96 b18c. Ill post driving impressions once i get it all back together. Should be good for 10 HP right? Anyway...ill post the pics in a minute..let me know what you think.
Just your basic DIY port and polish kit. A die grinder with some bits. After i was done i went over it with sand paper to smooth out the scratches. Theres still some left but it looks cleaner after some fine sand paper. No extrude finish, but not bad either. Took me about 6 hours id say. Wanna test it out, free horsepowah!!!!!
I need to buy a bunch of gaskets. so next paycheck, in two weeks. I was gonna ask if its safe to reuse the head bolts, theyve been used twice i think.

Yea its a 89 head. Thats the first year they made 'em i think. I was surprised how clean it was. Valve guides were still perfect, no bellmouth wear on the valves, no trace of leaking seals or burnt valves, no cracks, no warpage. Gotta love Honda!

P.S. ARP head studs are a good idea, about the same price as new head bolts from the dealer anyway. I was wondering which ones to buy B18c or B16a. The block is a b18c and the head is a b16a1. thanx

Yeah... that's oh so true...
When your in ports are too smooth, you get beading. The mixture tends to cling to the ports instead of staying 'airborne'. If it's too smooth, you might be a lil boggy in the low end. But you did a decent job so far... if the head isn't on yet, you can try a wire brush attachment to give the ports a nice quick fix.

And to the person who siad it belongs with the head, its not necessarily true. Ls/vtecs with b16 heads must use gsr headstuds.
