Unless you know what your doing, and have the tools to do it correctly, you can end up damaging the head, better off to pay to have it done. 94

I did some port work on an intake manifold a while back for my small block with a TPI. It turned out nice but I would have to say it's best to have it done on something like a b16 head. The reality is that the average guy like you or me just doesn't have the experience, not to mention the equipment, to do it properly. You could end up doing more harm than good just due to a lack of knowledge about how to shape the ports.

However, I hate people telling me I can't do something, so if you really insist on trying it yourself, I would read every bit of information I could find on porting a b16 head (there is some good info out there as I've read it before). Study up and make sure you have the best tools for the job, and maybe a back-up head in case you do slip up. If it works, LET ME KNOW! I would really like to do some port work on my H22 but don't want to drive two hours to find a decent machine shop.

Alright, I'll let you know and thanks for the heads up, I'm the same way though and if I can do it properly why pay someone else to do it lol. I'll keep you posted

I'll through some pic's of a ls head I did (first port job ever). Porting is like art the more you do it the more you learn and the better you get. Not every guy started with a flowbench and $500+ in tools
