Differences in obd1 and obd2 distributors?
I need to replace my OBD1 Ls distributor for my CRX. I was told an obd2 would do fine, I would just need to repin the plugs. Someone else told me that the obd2 distributor does not have the crank angle sensor in it because in 96+ they decided to have that sensor near the oil pump.
What are my options here? My DK distributor is a pile of crap.

There is nothing wrong with using an OBDII distributer with an OBDI ECU. In fact, OBDII distributers are generally regarded to be more reliable than OBDI distributers (which are more reliable than OBD0 distributers). As for the sensor on the crank on OBDII motors, that is the crankshaft speed fluctuation sensor, which is something that is not found on OBDI motors anywhere. The distributer itself has the same three sensors on OBDI and OBDII, though.
i am running obd2 distributors in my eg ls 0bd1. i made adapter harness so i can use both distributors. you can buy adapter if you can't make one.
Does it run fine? I would just swap the pins over if I were to use a obd2 dist. I was told there are 2 extra wires on obd1 distributors. Is that right? They are supposed to be the wires going to the crank sensor at the oil pump...with on abd2 dist/pump.

With my dizzy there were no wires left over, i dunno what that is about.
Just re pin your plug putting the matching wires in their proper places just as I told you via pm
They will interchage with no problems at all

oh, my question wasnt about compatability with the ECU. The question I was facing was if there was a lack of a crank angle sensor in the distrbutor on obd2 ones. and if there was, I would have to extend two wires from my harness that typically go to the dist, to the sensor on the oil pump/crank. Make sense? And is this still a bunk theory? This is what someone told me whom I have a good amount of mechanical trust in. Says hes done it several times.
that sensor on the crank has not one thing to do whit the distrbutor. that sensor on the crank of obd2 car is crankshaft speed fluctuation sensor. it does not fire the pugs.
yea, I understand it doesn't cause the fire.
Someone tell me that that sensor is or is not inside a obd1 distributor and you will answer that question/dispute.

Chris, the internals of the OBDI and OBDII dizzy's are the same.
The sensor your speak of is not in OBDI dizzys nor are they in OBDII dzzys.
If you were to take the two apart side by side they only difference between the two would be the plug.
all the wire colors, ignitors and coil are the same.
No sensors...only ignitors and a coil.
I'd take a pic for but I no longer have and OBDI dizzy and I don't want to pull apart my OBDII GSR dizzy on my obdI LS/VTEC to show you.
