Default Diff noises?

Has anyone had any experience with a differential (open) making clunking noises before it goes out? Thanks for the info in advance.

Already did. Doesn't sound like a axle problem.

Best bet is a free estimate from a local tranny shop.

the clunking means there is excess play in the spider gears ... time for new diff ... pm me i have lots of open diffs, but hey its XMAS time, perhaps Santa can bring you one of those LSD things ...

Is the tranny a L3 in a SOHC 88-91 CRX/Civic???????

Non harden pinion shaft wore through, snapped, destroyed the casing/diff/gears.

Thats what I thought may be going on. The car has seen allot of low 13 and a couple high 12 sec passes on slicks along with over 115K street abuse miles. Thanks for the info Greg and I will get back to you on the LSD.
