Diagnostic Issue: B18B Engine Spark Problem
Hey guys. I have a b18b swapped ej1. here are the facts:
Engine spins over, starter is good.
Wont fire up.
Fuel pump is priming and i have fuel pressure at rail.
None of the 4 spark plug wires have any spark.
Brand new ngk plugs and wires.
Distributor has 50k miles on it.
I replaced the ICM, coil, cap, rotor button with OEM honda parts.
no CEL until i jump the 2-pin connector, then i get a solid light.
i think it might be the ECU.
any thoughts?
thanks in advance.

no cel with connector not jumped, and solid cel with connector jumped, means there are no codes and the ecu is fine.
have you done any wire testing? electrical diagnostics? specifically checking for power on the coil's power wire? and continuity between icm and coil, and between icm and ecu. also check all fuses.

well it turned out to be the coil. i had 2 coils that tested good but werent putting out spark.
so with that problem solved, i still have a sputtering issue that was going on right before the coil went out. i thought they were related at the time, and they still may be, but heres whats going on.
after i got the engine swapped and running it idled and drove fine and then after about 30 min the engine would sputter at times. when it sputters, the idle drops to 400-500 and it barely stays on. if im accelerating from a stop and it starts sputtering, it almost feels like a soft rev limiter, i can give it more throttle and the rpm stays the same and it wont accelerate. eventually the coil gave out so i replaced it with a new one. same deal even though i replaced the icm, cap and rotor with new oem honda parts and also got a new fuel filter. same ****. sooo yesterday i notice that the rad hoses are pressurized higher than normal and theres bubbles in the coolant. could a headgasket cause the above issues? i dont want to believe i have a bad headgasket on an engine with 50k miles, but i dont know what else it could be, maybe a fuel pump??? idk any thoughts?

Update: a friend recommended replacing the main relay since the fuel pump and ignition both route through the relay. I replaced it and went for a drive and the problem is still there: really low idle once warm, occasional artificial rev limiter when under acceleration anywhere from 1.5-4k rpm.
Are you sure the wires that plug onto the Ignition module are TIGHT? I had an Integra with the same setup you have that ran terribly intermittantly and I found poor quality connection at the Ignitor module.
Just a thought
Also.. be sure the Electrical portion of the Ignition switch is good. if you "wiggle" the key in the ignition while driving does it make the car cut off or act up? You can check for battery voltage at the Blk/Yellow wire that goes into the Distributor with the Ignition ON ..
