detonation solutions? HELP!
sounds like you are running lean. Genrally if its pinging its detonating before the plug fires.. SO plugs probably arent gonna do it. I would bump your FP, and if that doesnt work try bigger injectors. A A/F guage is really handy for this, see if someone will let you borrow one or get one yourself. Pinging WILL kill your motor if you dont stop it.

who are you talking to dr. elusive, ive got all of the above...
to the first poster of this thread, did you check and make sure that your rotor in your dist. wasnt loose or misaligned ? Alot of the times its the stupid little stuff that you over look...

I'd suggest a couple things.
1) Use higher octane fuel. Mix race gas with 93 octane, or use toulene to boost your octane level.
2) Get like a Hondata to tweak your fuel map, and you'll need a A/F gauge.

agreed, just fill her up with 94 and get a hondata, for sure...
then boost the ever loving **** out of her
and get bigger injectors, for sure, and an FPR w/gauge...

I fixed my detonation this weekend, with the help of my buddy...
Here are the steps we went through to fix her up, maybee this could be helpfull to you...
1: Loose distributor rotor screw. Yup. Mista Bone gets a cookie. Replace rotor, add new screw WITHOUT stripped threads.
2: Timing belt had 20 mm play on the long side, 10 mm play on the W/P side. POSSIBLY more if I would have played with it, but the crank turned at LEAST 4-5 degrees without moving the cam. Replace and tighten.
3: Engine Ground straps? Where? Add 2.
4: Fuel MAP? Back to baseline plus 2% fuel on boost.
5: Distributor bolts... All 3 loose, turn the dizzy by hand. Every time he hammered it, the dizzy advanced to full advance, every time he lifted, it shot back to full retard. Tighten, and set it.
6: Fuel pressure was WAY too high for the 440's and the rich MAP. Reset it to 38 psi and calibrate MAP accordingly.
7: Plugs were too hot. 1 step colder.
She picked up 2 psi of boost. Peaks at 9.5 psi now instead of the usual 7.5. I'm assuming the timing belt being THAT loose was retarding the cam so far the overlap was blowing the boost out the exhaust side.

Ok guys, since the last time Ive posted, Ive added ITR cams. Since I have added these cams it has spark knocked worse than with the B16 cams. Since it has been raining the past couple of days it has pretty much been fine with hardly any spark knocking, but I know as soon as the weather warms up it will be back to the way it was.
What size injectors will be good for my setup? Anyways, the VTEC sounds mad with the ITR cams!!
