Default Debatable Transmission Question - Please help

I just got a 97 GSR tranny with a clutch/flywheel setup done yesterday in my 97 LS and the guy who installed put some motor oil in the tranny. I need to change the fluid in my tranny but don't know what kind I should get.
The car is a 97 LS and ever since I got the car back shifting has been anything but smooth. I had this problem in my old tranny but I didn't know any better. I don't wanna pick the wrong type of tranny fluid this time and create grinds in it again. At times the gears go in smoothly, and other times it's hard to get in.

I looked through the search and from what I read Honda MTF and Penzoil/GM Synchromesh are good. Any input at all would be deeply appreciated.

Could it be a problem other than transmission fluid? What kind of fluid do you recommend, any good oil stabilizers? Please don't flame me for my noobness.

I've gained a lot of knowledge from Honda-Tech members since I've joined and now I really need your help!!

OMG n00b search!!!!!!11123

Just kidding.

Is it grinding gears or is it just difficult to shift? If it's grinding sometimes different fluid can help. I haven't tried it, but I hear nothing but praise for the GM stuff. I use Honda MTF, but would try the GM sauce if I had a problem.

If it's difficult to shift, the bolt that attaches the shift linkage to the shift lever could be too tight. That makes it hard for it to pivot back and forth, making the shifter stiff.

hmm, its definetely not grinding right now but it is a little difficult to get into the gears, it seems as if it takes two big steps to get into the next gear. thanks for the input.

Anyone know where I can possibly get a hold of some of the GM Synchromesh fluid?

And since its from GM do they have it for different applications or do I just the GM stuff?

the GM synchro you have to buy at the gm dealer; ,make sure you get the friction modified one.
some people say the pennzoil synchro is the same as the non friction modified gm synchro stuff; but cant find that anywhere

Shifting is not difficult, it just takes more force to put it in to gears plus I can hear the gear going in. 2nd to 3rd makes the most noise then 1st to 2nd. the other gears are not as bad as these and i don't have any problems shifting into lower gears at all.

I'm thinkin of picking up the synchromesh up but don't know which one to get. I know the Modified Friction one is meant for cars equipped with LSD's and I'm not sure if that one will do any harm to my tranny.

Anyone know if the Modified Friction one will work okay in a non LSD tranny? Is the Penzoil/GM synchromesh as good as the Modified Friction one?

why do you think that the transmission fluid is the problem or needs to be changed? improper fluid would cause hard shifting or grinding in all gears not just a rough shift from 1-2 and 2-3.
