I've read several threads about the problems B20'VTECS have, and how they lose power around 60,000 miles. What was true of verything I read I'm not sure so here is my question....
Does the problem(s) lay in the block itself? I'm planning out my buildup and was thinking I'd go with a GSR stroked to 1.98L. But I would rather have a Dart B20 (B16A head) stroked to 2.1L.... If I do the Dart B20/VTEC, what kind of problems would I be looking at, and how long before it would need a major repair or rebuilding? Estimates are okay. Please make a reply that will help me out.
Thanks,
Chris

i dont think anyones has a "Dart B20 Block" for over 60k miles...it pretty much just came out..! ..as for the Honda B20 with a VTEC head the R/S ratio probably has something to do with it at that milage (60k). That r/s ratio with high rpm's and high milage probably eqauls "out-of-roundness" of the cylinder walls and worn piston rings.....

Well if your using the VTEC to simply bring back the quick loss in torque in the 5500-7000 RPM range on a LS/CRV block, then I don't see why these engine would only last 60,000 miles. Also is that 60K total or 60K + the original mileage? It's when you start taking a regular LS/CRV block past the 7K mark that you start to see wear. These engines were not designed for 8000-8500 RPM redlines, like the VTEC blocks were.
Also if you get the Dart block you can just use 86mm pistons and have 2.1L and not have to worry about stroking.

Didn't mean anyone currently has 60k on a Dart block, oops. Not sure whther it is original or after swap miles. Not sure about the 86mm bore as I will be running a lot of boost.
check this web site out the owner of the site is running a dart block witha type r head...www.b20vtec.com

1. Can anyone plz tell me if the Dart block is "VTEC ready" or do i still have to do some block work like the LS-VTEC?
2. And is it more of a GSR kinda block or just a stronger CRV block. what i mean is oil supply and other things that make STOCK GSR block better then the STOCK CRV block?
