Default d16z6/d16y8 combo concerns

hey all, i haven't been here in almost a year now since i moved on to subarus.
still helping a friend out with his honda project though, so i'd just like some expert input since i've searched through 40 pages of the archives already.
i'm originally a z6 guy so there are no problems in that area, just the y8 parts i need some help on. i've only worked on 1 y8 before so i don't know everything about them.
heres the current setup:

EF with mpfi and obd1 conversion running a full z6/p28 with original cable tranny.

Worked fine, but motor gave out before I got my turbo kit from my old z6 onto his, so here's my dilemma:

same car with mpfi and odb1 conversion already, plus we already have the mounts, so i guess treat it pretty much like obd1 with a p28.
now the head is still in good shape and works fine, so I have the option of either throwing it onto a z6 or y8 block.
the first choice is simple, but say I can only find a y8 block. If I'm keeping the obd1 and z6 head, there should be no problem with this right? It'll basically be like swapping just the block out of an EG and replacing the block, keeping the head and ECU. I think i remember the y8 might have knock sensor, which doesnt matter since obd1 doesn't run it anyway. And all the other important connectors and electronics are on the head, so I shouldn't have any issues with plugs or needing a conversion harness i think.
Only thing I could possibly think of is the dizzy and timing belt. Dizzy should be find i think tho, most people seem to need to replace internals or use a diff dizzy because they're using a head with a different obd than the ecu and need to convert. Timing belt I'm not positive on.
So i'm not concerned with having lower comp than a stock y8, or getting a y8 intake mani, or which head flows better or z6 vs y8.

Just need to know that it'll work and if I missed any details I should consider.
Thanks lots, I'm just hoping to help another d-series ninja hit the streets.

-Alan

CLIFF NOTES: EF that is already obd1 w/p28 and running stock z6. Can I swap in a Y8 block and keep everything else z6 and have no probs.

as far as i know, it should be just a swap right over. if you are keeping the z6 head then its really simple. you wont need to change dizzy and timing belt is the same on z6/y8 but i think your compression is going to be lower with the y8 bottom and z6 top. for boost it will be more safe than say a z6 bottom with y8 top, thats a highER comp ratio. while you are at it, might as well inspect the pistons too. will he be installing the z6 or y8 pistons in the block? is the y8 block complete? all in all should be a simple change over. hopefully i answered your questions. goodluck

p.s. what kind of turbo setup is he running on there?

oh yea, forget about that damn y8 intake mani, not worth the headache of putting it on the z6 head. just my honest opinion.

thanks, that's what i though for the most part.
good having confirmation though.
will probably be y8 block with built internals.

setup is my basic greddy setup with different fuel management. will prob try to get a 2.5 dp made as well.

thanks lots. if any else would like to chime in i'd appreciate it.
