Default d16y8 headgasket layers question

hey i have to replace my head gasket on my 99 d16y7 with a y8 head i notice that the new gasket has 3 layers riveted together would i be able to remove the middle layer to boost compression ratio a bit? will i run into problems? the head and block are completely stock will i feel a difference? thanks for the help

yes, you can remove the middle layer. The y8 gasket is already thinner than the y7 gasket.
