D16y8 Block Vs. D16z6 Block? whats the differance?
I'm gona build the a "panda" D series engine vary soon, but i dont know what block i should use.
I found a post on http://www.Dsreies.org about a z6 head vs. a y8 head, but nothing on the block.
what block is better for boost? whats the diffeance between the two?

i think the blocks are about the same but im not positive on that. the only difference i can think of right off hand is that the z6 head has a squared off chamber and the y8 head has a round chamber. z6 is 34.6cc and y8 is 32.8cc.
I can't think of any differences except for the pistons on the Y8 have a little more compression. Dome displacement on the Z6 is -10.10 cc per piston and -6.20 for the Y8. The bare block and crank should be the same.
I think the dipstick tube location is the only difference; thusly the Y8 would be a little more convenient if you wanted to get creative with the manifold and turbo location.

*ah ahem* got it twisted
z6 has the round chamber and y8 has the square chamber

The dipstick is in a diff location because of the oil pump..you could use the Y8 oil pump on the Z6 to move the stick...The Y8 has an extra sensor hole on the back side of the block for a knock sensor.
