Default d16a1, dohc zc question

i know the d16a1 makes less power but what is the cause of that? lower compression? different cams, more free flowing head? the Whole head?

It's NonVTEC which has been mentioned before. It does have lower compression than a B16A as well. The redline is lower too.

i made mo reference to the B series engines, or a sohc ZC, or a vtec d series. i asked about the DOHC zc and the D16A1. what causes the horsepower differences in the near identical engines.

If your unable to answer the question Dont reply, and dont tell me there isnt any ******* Vtec. BECAUSE NEITHER THE D16A1 or THE DOHC ZC HAVE IT. GOD

higher compression pistons - different camshafts - better intake manifold - better throttle body (A1 has dual butterflies) - 4-2-1 exhaust manifold

So if i could get ahold of a dohc ZC head, complete with intake/TB would i be able to just fit it to the d16a1?

Calm down man. I misunderstood you. Theres no need to throw an E-fit about it.

The D16A1 is an DOHC ZC. I guess the DOHC ZC you are referring to is the D16A8/9. One main difference between the two motors is that the A1 had vaccum advance and an external coil, while the A8 had timing controlled by the computer and an internal coil distributor. I think the A8 had a higher redline too which means more HP, but am not 100% sure about it.

I have a 3rd gen civic, the ZC motors from the 86-89 Tegs are an easy swap for it, so I've been looking into them a little bit.

</TD></TR></TABLE>yes but only on pre-88 models oh and a higher redline dosn't nessicarily mean it makaes more power, it just means it can rev higher
