Default d16 rod bearing sizing

i had a shop assemble a d16 engine, they got the main bearings right on, but it appears the rod bearings they jsut went with a standard sized bearing rather than measure with plastigage. at 1500 miles rod knock had us tear the engine down and find that all rod bearings showed a lot of wear, main bearings were in great shape. the crank was scored as well. so we got a new crank and I am replacing the mains, but the rod bearings are an issue.
We are using Eagle Rods, and it appears the standard bearing is a perfect fit for the rod, however the the standard bearing was giving too much clearance on the first crank and this lead to early failure.
the original crank had rod journal codes of CCCB, and the new crank has codes of BBBC. So of course im not sure how to proceed...anyone dealt with this before and had a chance to determine how to properly select the right bearings? I hate to have to buy a set of standard bearings and then have to buy a second set if they dont fit right.....

The shop should have plastigauged the clearances. You dont make assumptions on clearances.

Throw your old bearings in, plastigauge them. Then order different size bearings to get the clearance desired based on your measurements and the test bearing thickness.

yeah the shop should hve but they dfidnt, and they offered a possible refund for bad bearings....just needed to bring the shortblock in to them.

anyway i decided screw them why pay them a second time for **** they messed up.

i have considered using the old bearings but i am not sure how accurate it would be using them to test clearances since they are all pretty torn up, with deep grooves in them on the inside...
