d-series gurus please help!!!!!!!
Hey guys I need some answers. I have been searching for a long time now for a good d series engine for my 92 dx hatchie and I cant find a good z6 for a reasonable price and nobody has a low mileage d15b7. I have the b7 in my car now and it burns oil like a **** when revving hard to redline and I know its my rings. Today I think I blew my motor or at least broke a ring on the way home from work. I want a good low milage d15b7 but will a d16y7 work? It is the 96+ dx motor. I think the y7 puts out 3 or 4 more HP than the b7 but I dont know if it will bolt into my car. I was wondering if I could swap over my stock b7 intake manifold to the y7 so I dont have to go changing all the harnesses and **** to make it obd2. Would just the y7 block and head work for me? Also I have a 91 SI cam in my b7 that is brand spanking new and I was wondering if it would swap over into the y7 head? Has anybody done this in their EG? I think that the b7 intake flows better than the y7. Would the z6 intake bolt onto the y7? I'm just trying to get an idea of what I can do to get a better lower milage engine. I really want a J-spec d15b sohc vtec and I found one w/ecu for 1000bucks. To rich for my blood.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT TELL ME TO DO A B16A, B18C, OR H22 SWAP!!!!!
I LOVE THE D-SERIES MOTORS!!!!
I always look on ebay for motors and I always see the d15b sohc non-vtec. What the hell motor is it? Is it a b7 b7 b1 b2? How much power does it make? It always seem to be carburated. I'm sure you can bolt on the pgm-fi intake and stuff and make it work but I just dont know what the hell kind of motor it is. It says that it will fit 88-95 honda civics.
Unrelated stupid question: Will a worn out motor with lower than normal compression make more or less power than a tight fresh motor. In other words will a motor with 155,000 miles make more or less power than a 60,000 mile motor. ( this is to prove to my buddy that a worn out motor will not outperform a newer motor) I'm a mechanic so I know better

lol, damn quite the questions
To answer your questions about the motor working, yes it will. You can also use your stock harness since they are both non-vtec and your harness being a 1 wire o2 sensor even though the D15B7 is from the OBDII DX, if you use the DX ECU you will have to convert the harness from your firewall to the ECU to OBDII by adding another O2 sensor from the Cat Converter. Still very easy process.
The D15B8 (your stock CX motor) has I believe 72 horses if I am not mistaken.
The DX motor has 102 HP, not much, but at least it can open a pickle jar and buildable huh?
And most of the Intake Manifolds you listed will work with the motor, but I believe the D16Y8 from the 96-00 EX flows the best, but for the DX motor, I don't know how those two work with eachothe being the Y8 is sohc vtec and the Y7 non-vtec.
I would just stick with the DX Intake Manifold for flowing. As far as anything from your CX engine bay, I would chuck out, nothing is going to work, I mean hell, the Throttle Body can barely fit your thumb, where is air going in?
The J-spec D15B is good engine for producting 130 HP, get one if you can
As for the unrelated question --
Answer is -- wear and tear, if one engine has less wear and tear and the other is almost gone, nuff said?
