Cylinder misfire
I posted this in the prelude forum and due to the lack of replies I'm assuming I may have put this in the wrong forum....can anyone help me?
Hi guys...I'm really stumped on this and am hoping you can shed some light on this problem I'm having; the car is a 2001 prelude.....I'm going to try and cover all the details to give the best description as possible. About 3 months ago, I was coming to a stop light and when the engine reached idle it started misfiring. I revved it up a little and the higher the RPM's got the misfire went away. I take off, drive down the interstate and when I get off and come to a stop all is fine. Didn't do the problem for another month or so. Same thing happened as before about a month later...The scenario is the same because it seems to always happen on my way home from work Anyhow, the misfire started becoming more frequent and it popped a check engine light with a code saying "system too rich". One day, I managed to catch the problem and poke around under the hood while it was happening and noticed the number two cylinder was not "firing"...it had spark, plenty of it, and you could smell the gas on the plug. For ***** and giggles I replaced the cap, rotor button, all the plugs, plug wires, and ran a really potent fuel cleaner in the gas. Problem came back again. Checked under the hood and it was the number two cylinder again. Determined to cover all the basics, I replaced the injector on that cylinder thinking maybe it was sticking open causing the problem. Misfire came back again...I'm running out of ideas on what would cause ONE cylinder, the same cylinder, to have this problem but only every once in a while. When it's not happening, the car runs and idles fine. A friend suggested it might be an ECU problem but I don't want to go out and spend the money on one unless I KNOW it is the problem...Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to be as specific as I could be. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!!
Thanks!
