Default cylinder head bolt sleeves

Yet again I'm having trouble. I was FINALLY able to remove the stuck cylinder head, but the new cylinder head that I bought has one incompatibility. When I pulled off the cylinder head on the 4th gen civic si I had one nub that stuck out of the engine block that was a sleeve that fit into the corresponding bolt hole on the cylinder head. Well, the new cylinder head has a sleeve nub that sticks out right where the one on the head is sticking; therefore, they don't fit. Does anyone know what sleeves I'm talking about? I tried removing one on the already destroyed cylinder head and it just mangled, although I was able to make it spin, but it didn't come out. I just can't get a break on this job...just one thing after another.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

These are dowel pins- they do come out- I use some pliers to turn them and pull them out. It would be a better idea to remove the one from the head- it is easier to resurface than the block of you fudge it up.
