Cylinder #4 blew...
Yay, I blew my engine. Oh well, the new block now just has to be put in sooner. I was thinking of dropping a B16A, but now I decided to stay with the B21A1 engine. Anyway. I know it was my #4 cylinder, as I pulled the plug wire it was dripping oil, I have the roughest idle I've ever seen, and a total lose in power. It drives, but I don't want to tow it to the shop, I think it is about 20 miles away, do you think I can get my car there (backfiring) - or will it just seize up? I know it's a unpredictabe question to answer, but what do you think my odds are? Thanks...

Well, s**t. I found a place in Lynwood, WA. They have a B20A5 (135 hp vs. B21A's 140 hp) for $575.00, plus $85.00 for gaskets. The engine is from japan, and has average of 40k miles. I guess I should get that engine, sell my parts, and get an EK (well, an USDM cx (EK)). I am kindof tired of a car that I have to deal with stuff like this. Companies just don't want anything to do with 88-91 preludes. No conversions or anything like that...
Should I even buy the gaskets - kindof a waste of money since the engine has only 40k or less miles?

If you can't trust Dusin or Mike then I suggest moving out of this country, cause we don't want you living here...

Did you do a compression test yet?
I bet it's not blown! The oil on the plug wire is from the valve cover gasket gone bad.
Do a compression test first, OR remove the wire then remove the spark plug so the oil would go in the cylinder, clean the spark plug & wire real good, reinstall, fire up and let me know what it does!
I bet it's just a simple valve cover gasket your problem (under $50.00 parts and labor).
Good luck!

I think my plan now is to fix it up nice, sell some stuff, then sell my car and get an EK, well, a USDM CX if you want to be up tight about it.
If your valve cover gasket leaks oil in to the sparkplug hole and the sparkplug wire is wet then you will not be firing on #4, therefore it's going to run on only 3 cylinders = rough running and missing = loss of power. It's just like you disconnected #4 and tried to drive around on only 3 cylinders.
You said that the sparkplug wire is covered with oil. I can't think of any other way the oil going in there (unless you can see a big hole on the valve cover). I've dealed with this issue before on a lot of cars.
Let me know after you dry up everything and fire it up.
I think you'll be fine. Good luck!

i had this problem too, it was just the o rings gaskets around the spark plug holes, went to acura and got new gaskets and problem solved. btw that place thats selling that motor wouldnt happed to be across the street from lynnwood acura would it?

I'm not sure if it is across from Acura of Lynnwood, I've never been there - why do you ask - are they shadey? Thanks...
yeah, oil in the spark plug housing is usually just the spark plug seals... i think they were only a few bucks a pop... replace them all while you're at it...
Didn't work... I replaced all of them, cost me like $12. Oh well. I even changed my plug wires back to stock, that didn't help. The piston rod or connecting arm must have broke, I know I have no compression their.
you can drive it with one cylinder not firing, but just be careful and dont push it at all......drive very very slow, and i would have a friend follow you just incase something happens
