uh, you noob, if you know about cutting valve cover by the timing side is IMPORTANT if you have Aftermarket cams for easy adjustment, so you don't have to take the Valve Cover off everytime you want to adjust...get it? ANyways, my friend said that the newer valve cover came Cut like that but I haven't seen one yet. I saw some on ebay for around 180-200 bucks shipped with a moon shape cuts...JDM and it's pretty cool, but I like the one with the complete side taken off, you know what I mean?

Sorry about the blurry pic:

I can't remember if we used a sawz-all, or a die grinder. I'm thinking it was the die grinder.

yeah, it should be, after the time I spent cleaning it. Of course, everything you can see from that angle was under the timing belt cover, so it never really got dirty in the first place.

I found a more clear picture of the valve cover cut.

umm this is what you can do...goto your local muffler shop and have them slice the corner of your valve cover

or

get a really high speed dremel with a cutting wheel and have fun

or goto your local hardware store and buy the correct size DOOR HANDLE HOLE CUTTER for a drill and have fun! that i must say is the cleanest cut you can get because if your accurate it will line up perfectly with your cam gears.

I just used a 10" chop saw with a cutting disk on it.... You have to make two passes but if you take a min to line it up it look pretty clean... I'll try to get some pics but they are nothing really special.

Would the door handle hole cutter really work?

Those pictures show no cam gear cover on the motor. I wouldn't cut holes in my cover without some type of dust cover, because if something falls in that hole like a screw, it's bye-bye valves. Then again I could use that Gude head package. I have just gotten really quick at taking my valve cover off. I can remove the valve cover and cam gear cover, adjust my cam gear, and reinstall both covers, including torqueing them down with torque wrench in about a half an hour. I couldn't see the pictures of the cut one with dust covers, they are just red x's.

What bit did you use to cut it with cause the valve cover looks pretty sharp and accurate. How long was the process?

looks like the one we did . we got a few slits in with a dremel and used a jig from there. then we took it to a bench grinder and made it smooth

Use a protractor to make the circles and a die grinder to remove the material, works much faster

WTF are you talking about? There is a wall between the cam-seals and the timimg belt + gears. You could chop the whole timing belt cover off and the cams would still be covered. And the valves are deep in the HEAD, a screw can't exactly fall in there.

its either a 4" holesaw or 4 1/2 i forget, use a 90 degree hole hawg and u can fit it in the engine bay and cut w/o lifting the motor.

I'm saying if a screw, dirt, a stick or whatever dropped in there and caused your timing belt to jump a tooth, you are going to wish you had them covered. If you don't believe me rev your motor to 8K and shove something metal between thecam gear and the belt.
