CTR cams installation
I have a few newebie questions on cam installation. I have CTR cams and want to install them in my B16A2 engine. I know i shouldn't skimp on things but i really am trying to keep my costs low where it is safe to do so,
1) Do i need a new head gasket / full gasket fit?
2) Do i need a new timing belt?
3) How many hours labour will it take to do if done by a professional?
4) Can i run my stock B16A2 cam gears and gain the full benefit of the cams? Or do i really require full aftermarket adjustable cams?
thanks
you won't need the whole gasket set, change the headgasket if you need to, don't fix it if it ain't broken
2. how long has it been since you changed it last time, it would be convenient to since its all gonna come off.
3. about 2 hours
4. i would definately get some cam gears, btw i have toda's and strs on both my vehicles

yeah, i had the belt replaced by Honda at 60,000 miles and my car has now done about 83,000.
so hopefully i can get away from fitting just the cams and and gears? And i guess if the tension in the valve sproinsg are ok too, no need changing them too!
Also, does it really matter if it is a named brand for the cam gears?

you dont need to unless you plan on doing valves or valve springs, once you get down to the cams you may as well take the head off, its 8 bolts after that, plus you should do a new head gasket for the hell of it, it will be worth it while your there. fel pro head sets for a 99 si are like 125-150 i think and you get every gasket from the head gasket up. It would so be worth it to take your time and spend a couple extra dollars (pounds). make sure you send your head out to have it resurfaced also.
labor will be about 2-3 hours depending on the shop and or tech that does it. you should also do a t-belt water pump and belt tensoner while your there (verry easy with the head off.) and get some skunk 2 cam gears!
Good luck!

Removing the head isn't just as simple as "8 bolts." Remember all of the crap connected to it.
Intake manifold, exhaust manifold, vacuum lines, water lines, fuel lines to the IM, etc.
Easily twice the work.
