CTR cams in B16A engine - what else do I need?
My bro has a 99 Civic SI and he got a set of CTR Cams for it. Currently, the only mods are AEM CAI, and AEM Cam Gears. Valvetrain and full exhaust are both stock.. what else does he need to get the car tuned/running right. Are there do's and don'ts I could let him know about? Free'r flowing exhaust help? Any valvetrain upgrades required, or are the stock internals ok to handle them?
I would at least finish up with all the bolt-ons before jumping into the cams. An exhaust is mandatory, as well as headers.
As far as the internals go, they're fine. Keep the rev-limiter stock and you'll be okay. If you want to raise the limiter, you might want to invest in some stiffer valvesprings.
Also, I would add a fuel controller of some sort. A simple fuel pressure regulator would work, but an S-AFC would be better.
And the most important thing is to get it DYNO TUNED! A few hours on the dyno can help squeeze out the last few remaining hp hidden in those cams.
Good luck.

I would upgrade the v-train to at least ITR-spec. The CTRs have been shown to make power up to around 8800rpm, so with the addition of cam gears, you should see a good improvement with some dyno time.
Also, look into possibly an ITR manifold (I know it fits the b17a). It's cheaper than the Skunk2, and the B16a has the same head as the B17a. You will need a G2 LS fuel rail for proper fitment.

Well, I talked to him today and the ITR Intake Manifold should be in friday. I'll let him know about the fuel rail.
01GSR : thanks for the advice, but if you didnt read the post it said I already have the cam gears. You have any advice for settings?
Thanks for the help guys.
