CTR cams in DOHC VTEC
Is going with a set of aftermarket cam gears something to consider (or stay with stock cam gears?) If so, what brand should I use....good quality...

Go aftermarket, you will need to do some dyno tuning the cam gears for the most out of your money.
You really should upgrade your valvesprings, but I have seen lots of people who didn't w/ out problems....it is a good Idea though.

I have CTR cams also with stock B16A valvetrain. It sucks not being able to hit 8,500 rpm. I heard CTR cams could produce up to 18hp if dyno tuned well. I recommend going for JUN cam gears or Spoon. They are both well known trusted brands and when you upgrade your cams, you could have a nice set of cam gears to go along with it.

Re: CTR cams in DOHC VTEC (beeboyee)
My revlimiter was set at 8,200 with stock B16A ecu. After I got my chipped P-28 ecu, I never tried going past 8,200. I really wanted to though. You shouldn't go beyond 8,200 until you get stronger valvetrain. You should be able to hit 8,500 rpm with Type R valvetrain (valvesprings, retainters, and valves). Just get Type R outer and stiffened inner valvesprings along with Type R valves. You should be able to rev up to 8,500 safely or even 8,700 rpm.

Re: CTR cams in DOHC VTEC (beeboyee)
I will go with the SPOON's cam gears they allow +/-5 degrees adjustment and they are really light and balanced.
With OE TypeR valve springs they're good up to 9,000rpm. And OE B16A/B18C's valve springs are only designed for up to 8,300rpm. If u wanna pass 8,300rpm it's better to use SPOON double valve springs since they're good to 9,500rpm. But if u're tight on budget u can get the OE TypeR valve springs.
