Default CTR cams in 1st gen. B16a dyno plot...

Kinda dissapointed with the results, was aiming for 175whp and better gains in torque but this was the best I could extract out of her. I tried everything from retarding both cams to different ignition settings. She can't hold her idle now due to the overlap of the exhaust cam. From the a/f and torque graph it looks like I might be able to benefit a little by leaning it out a little.... suggestions? I'll post the a/f graph tonight. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

JDM ITR 4-1, 2.5" exhaust, CTR cams: +4 intake, -5 exhaust
ignition timing 19 deg. BTDC
fuel pressure 42psi

Max. torque: 118 ft/lbs @7413rpm
Max. power: 170.4hp @7748rpm

My question to you tech gurus, can anyone tell me if there are any adverse effects with running that much overlap on the exhaust cam? -5 deg. I have to unscrew the idle screw a few turns just so she can idle properly when I stop at the traffic lights. I'm sitting at about 1100rpm at idle!

TIA

from what I know...retarding the exhaust cam that much while having the intake cam advanced is probably going to help out your top end however it's likely going to take away from the mid range and lower end of your power band...how did the car do with just the intake cam advanced ?

When the exhaust cam is that retarded you're taking a chance of contaminating the intake charge...if you thnk about it logically

too much overlap will screw with your emissions, if you dont care about it then its fine. In terms of keeping idle up, its not the idle screw its the 8mm nut with hex screw which is the throttle stop, adjust it up to opent he butterfly a little.

FWIW, thats an impressive b16a plot, you need a reprogrammed ecu though, PM me if you want one I can help, I seel your vtec switching at 4400 as if oyu're using a GSR P72 ecu, the timing curves on that is slightly off than the b16a curves, I can remap those for you on your GSR ecu if you want, if not I can do the precise b16a timing maps you need for that, its good for a 2-3hp peak increase and around 8-9hp int he midrange.

With just the intake cam advanced, there was a slight gain up top. Funny thing was when I did a baseline run cams at 0,0, igntion timing 16 deg. no fuel alterations with the Field, X-over point at 5.4k.... I lost power/torque throughout the rev range. Once I started dialling in the cams, she started to wake up.

Greg - I'm actually using a chipped (Mugen variant) PR3 ecu. Vtec point at 4.4k, rev limiter at 9.2k. However I'm using a Field SFC VTEC which alters the x-over point to 5.4k. The hump between 4-5k is due to the CAI I believe.

I have a history of dyno plots while the car has undergone each stage of mods B16a dyno plots

hey man just had a couple of questions for you. you said that before you did any tuning with the ctr cams you actually lost power. i was wondering if you were using cam gears with your previous cams. my main question is would you recommend this cams and were did you notice the most power increase. do you know how these cams would perform on a b18c if i don't use some sort of vtec controller?
