Default crv rt4wd question

um so i just got a 1999 crv i was thinking of turboing it but i don't want to give up the 4wd if i turbo it im gonna need to use a step down harness and a chipped obd1 ecu does the rt4wd run off the ecu cause i was looking around the sight and it seems like its just like an lsd tranny to all 4 wheels so i should be fine with changing the ecu right

People have done AWD CRXs, Civics, and Integras before utilizing the CRV transmission and their own ECUs, so I don't think it's in your ECU.

The 4wd system is mechanically operated, not electronic. The more the front wheels slip, the more oil pressure builds and drive begins to be distributed to the rear wheels.

I dunno if you've ever watched a CRV launch before, but it seems to take at least a full revolution of the front wheels before there's enough oil pressure built up to transmit enough power to the rear to prevent the fronts from wheel spinning.

Based on that, i would say that there would be very little 'shock' (when you drop the clutch) being transmitted to the rear driveshafts causing them to break. If you plan on removing the clutch actuated part of the 4wd system, making it a true awd then i think that the rear driveshafts will need to be upgraded.

There was an Integra which used the CRV driveline in a rwd drift car, the only problem they encountered from my knowledge was axles breaking, and i don't think it was something that happened all the time.

All that being said, if you break them, upgrade them
