Default Cross-threaded/Stripped Flywheel Bolt Holes

As title states. I'm sure it was like that before I tried to put the flywheel on but it doesn't matter now as I still have to fix it. Does anyone know where I can find a 12mm x 1.00 fine thread tap for the flywheel bolt holes on the crank? I also thougth about going to say 12mm x 1.25 and using my own bolt... would this be a bad idea?

How bad are they? IF they are stripped bad, you are in for a headache. You really do not want to change the pitch, it will most likely mess it up more.

Look into specialty hardware stores, I know Broward bolt does not sell anything that fine.

i don't think it's stripped bad. it's crossthreaded and i actually had a hard time getting the bolt OUT

thanks for the heads up. but to fix the crank $60 ain't nothin. better than having to rip the motor apart to put my other crank in it. thanks ill check it out and let you know.

using a bigger bolt would upset the balance of the flywheel.

Like stated the helicoil is the best solution.

Also a good place to look for odd hardware/tools (like metric fine taps) is mcmaster-carr, http://www.mcmaster.com/ usually will be at your door step the next day or the day after.

Cheers.

btw can anyone confirm that 12m x 1.00 fine thread is the correct thread of the bolt?

actually read your thread wrong. i thought you were saying there was a helicoil kit for 12mm x 1.00. been looking around... still no luck on that size. only 12mm x 1.25 and 1.5 and 1.75

EDIT: nevermind... i read it wrong again.

damnit... can't find any heli-coil/perma-coil/thread repair kit with a 12mm x 1.00mm pitch ANYWHERE someone please help me out. I'd REALLY hate to have to pay to rebuild this motor (i have another LS crank) just because of this ****.

are you sure it's M12 with 1mm pitch? I can't even find bolts in that size. Are you sure it's not 1.25mm pitch?

You might have to try to put a M12 1mm pitch helicoil and find a coresponding bolt that looks the exact same as your existing one. Kinda half-*** but it shouldn't overly affect that balance.

well from what i've seen people post on here that their helms manual states... yes. I took a bolt to a hardware store but I think the threads on the bolt I took was messed up. i'm going to check again though. I'd be ecstatic if it was a 1.25mm pitch.
