Crankshaft Pulley bolt
I am using a 450ft impact wrench to attemp to remove the bolt, I have used heat on the bolt and pulley and it still won't budge. Anyone have any ideas?

You need to increase the pressure of your air compressor.
When you use the gun, you need to use it in quick short blasts
keep pulling and releasing the trigger
DO NO hold the trigger down.

We rented an impact gun. It was an electric 3/4" drive with 450 FT LBS. It seems like it had a lot of power. The thing was so heavy you almost had to rest it on your knee to support it. We heated it with MAP gas and then chilled it down to below 32 degrees with butane and it still won't come loose.

That's not going to do it. A an air-driven gun with significantly more torque and a good compressor will have the bolt off in a couple of seconds.

10 ft pole. Also don't use an extension with the impact gun. Straight socket on the gun and pound into that sucka. but if that doesn't work, use a long a@@ pole and it'll eventually break loose. Use steady pressure, not jerking motions.

How do you think an impact gun works... it's not steady pressure. The jerking motions is what is need to break the bolt free.

We got it off. Had to use the special tool that holds the pully while you take the bolt off. 2 6ft bars and it popped loose. Worst one I have ever worked with.
Was it a Ridgid electric impact gun? I tried one of those on a stuck axle bolt and it did nothing. I think their claim of 450 ft-lb is a blatant lie. I returned it, claiming false advertising.
You really need a real air wrench to take off bolts stuck this badly.
Now I'm looking into getting an air compressor and some air tools, but I'm finding out that the cheaper compressors apparently use an "oil-free" design, and don't last very long and are ridiculously noisy (this is what people are saying in online reviews at least). The good-quality compressors use oiled pumps, but are much larger and cost a lot more.

i know how an impact gun works, i was refering to using a long pole to break the bolt loose. if you jerk on it, you have more of a chance to round off the bolt, and can also cause damage to the crankshaft itself. an impact isn't as strong as 2 people with a long *** pole pulling on a bolt to break it loose. therefore you don't have to worry about messing stuff up with an impact.

Yes, standard threaded.

Add extensions until the breaker bar comes out of the wheel well. Then you stick a jack stand under the extensions to support them, stick a pipe on the breaker bar, and have at it.
