Year and model would be some good information to include.

Sorry it's a 1992 Civic Si with a JDM B16 SiR II. OBD 1. and the CEL flashes 4 times which comes out to be the crankshaft psoition sensor.

I really want this problem to go away, spent $300 on this new distributor just for it to do the same thing, just ordered a new fuel pump also just in case that might be on it's last leg.

Please Help!

that senor is behind the crank pully....follow the wiring harness from the injectors to the senor....u are going to have to take off the crank pully and the timing belt cover....

Is this a sensor hard to replace? I have to take off the crank to do this

no its not that hard to replace....only thing hard is going to be if u dont have access to air tools....u will need to impact the 19mm off the crank pully....the rest of it is pretty easy....

cool, no one told me there was a sensor by the carnk....could have save a $300 distributor

You know roughly how much this sensor cost?

Thanks for you help!!!!!

You may want to check it to make sure it is bad. It could be a wiring problem. Throwing parts at a car trying to fix a problem can get expensive. It's always good to verify the source of the problem.

Thats what I'm figuring, how would I test the sensor or the wire?

Measure the resistance of the sensor and compare it to the spec in your manual. If that checks out, check the wiring back to the ECU.

Hummm maybe it could be all those hacked wires going to the ecu....

Also wouldn't I have to take out the crank still to get to the sensor to test? Also I don't have a manual for a B16 car vs. the D16. I heard the D16 dont have the sensor down there.

The sensor on the back of the pulley is actually the crank fluctuation sensor.....If it really has it......Only the obd2 motors have it.The crank position sensor is inside the distributor.I had the same problem on a swap, just had a bad connection in the modified harness. What harness are u using?that would help us out also.If your using the stock harness and the dist plugs up to your harnes, then theres a bad connection somewhere.Or the wires might be reversed.

I'm currently using the stock wiring harness (92 Si). The only modifications to it was wiring the knock sensor and extending the vtec pressure plug wire.

So I'm now back to the sensor being inside the distributor. It was just plug and play as far as the distributor. How would I go about troubleshooting the bad connection? The distributor is brand new so I know it cant be that, or at least I hope.

Also the distributor is from an OBD-1 VTEC Integra...

Thanks for the replys! Almost had to take apart the car and not find no sensor

well,on your ecu plug, there are three plugs.Disconnect the smallest one...Now with that plug facing you, clip pointing up,check the resistance between the first connection and the one below it.It should read close to 350 to 700 ohms.If it does, try reversing the wires on the dist. plug. You should also try another ecu to make sure its not that either.

Is this with the key in the on postition or what? So you are saying test the first pin on top to the farthest left, then the pin below it?

I have a meter to measure this it think but never used it. Could you tell me how to go about... I have a red/black wires and black is for a ground and measure it with the red one?

Also how would I reverse the wires on the dist plug? There are 2 connetors and one with 7 wires to it another with 2. and they only clip one way.

Thanks!

You will want to test the sensor's resistance with the key OFF. Hopefully this link will work.

CKP Troubleshooting

Hopefully the pic is clear.

Ok I went outside to take measurements. At the ecu i'm getting .400 on the farthest pins on the left with the clip up. One of the wires are kinda hack on that...you think if I soder the wires it might fix it? I have one of the wires crimp connected...

and up by the distributor it was .395 (on the big connector)

Is this a low measurement?

If you measured the right ones, yes. The wires leading to it should be a blue/green wire, and a blue/yellow wire.If thats the resistance you got, that is too low.You might have a short somewhere.Another thing you should check is if there is a short with the distributor and the body ground.check for continuity between the dist.terminals and the body ground.

Cool I will check that out.

I also poped up a new cel binks slow 4 times and then quick 1. 41 right? Primary 02 sensor.

Also blink slow 4 times which is the same crank postiton sensor right?

Ahhhhh make me so mad when my car isnt running right...... hopefully it will be fix soon...

if it blinks slow four times, then thats not a code for the ckp sensor. After the four slow blinks, then you should have another set of fast blinks.Check your cel codes very carefully, then let us know what you have.

OK well I just went out to get the code and only one came up.

Blinked 4 times slow, then a quick 1 after that. It repeated the same thing over and over.

Now a quick note, when I was playing around with the car today I was under the hood when the car was running. I played with the wires that go to the 02 sensor. Wiggle them around and the car was about to die and then came back to life. Well look like one wire was not connected to well so I solder it together. It was the white wire with the 2 wires....i only connected the inside wire and left the "outer" wire not connected (it a greyish color wire). I have a 4 wire o2 sensor and it's brand new. When I was done soldering that one wire I tested it out again with the car running, wiggled those wires around and didnt cut out. So what the deal with it now I also took out the o2 sensor and cleaned it off with a dry cloth, dont know if that would do anything..

Also still does the same thing, wont go pass 3500 rpms when driving back to the apt. Did all the work at my parents house.

Thanks aeolus for the help Thought the thread would die

hehehe, well, try to fix the o2 sensor problem first,Then see if the code still shows up.Are you using the jdm ecu?
