Default crank and cam timing question???

i was puttin on the clutch and i couldnt tighten the bolts without having the crankshaft spin... so i put a steel rod in the sprocket for the camshaft so it wouldnt spinn... so i was tightening the clutch bolts ( the bolts that go directly into the cranshaft) and the crankshaft moved but the camshaft didnt... i dont see how this is possible since the timing belt has grooves in it.. im pretty sure it didnt jump teeth on the sprocket.. my question is.. what could have happened to make the crank spin but no the camshaft.. any input would help thanks

I would definitely check to see that the timing belt didn't jump some teeth on the cam gear. There are better ways of preventing the crank from turning.
