Crank bearing color code missing?
I just noticed tonight while measuring the journals that my ITR crank has no letters to show what bearings to use. I have a GRS crank that is junk, but I referenced it just to check the locations of the letters along with a Helms manual. Has anyone ever experianced this before?
I had planned on measuring the ID of the block main caps and the OD of the crank journal to get the thickness of the bearing I would need. I was then going to use the chart in the definitive GSR engine build by Jeff Evans to get the right bearing color because he lists each thickness. Is this alright to find bearing size in this manner? Is there any other chart I could reference just incase there is a typo in Jeffs? Has anyone ever heard of missing codes?
Thanks for your help.

Just plastigauge to double check everything.

I have never done this before but I had a similar question in a different thread. Not that it makes much difference but they told me to measure the main caps with the old main bearings in it then do the crank journals. Then you use a mic to see how thick your old main bearings were and figure out what size difference you would need. I guess it's really all the same though. I plan on doing it this way too and then double checking my math with plastigauge in the end.
You can measure your main bores along with your crank journals and determine the difference between the two. Find the bearing size that will give you the correct oil clearance and your good to go. However this should not be done without plastigauging to double check your clearance
However if you don't have the tools to do this, purchasing them could equal more then what you would spend on bearing+Extras alone

The tools are no problem. I already have them. I hope to finish up by the weekend depending on wether or not the bearings are in stock at the local Acura dealership.
Thanks for your responses!!
BTW, has anyone seen a crank with no bearing codes?
