Could someone technical identify this head (Pics)
I bought this head and cams very cheap and was told from the guy i bought this from it was a 97 Integra GSR head.
Im looking to put this on my MB6 as i have some blue smoke, i have done some research but cant really find a definite answer to what kind of head this is.
It has dual valve springs on 1 side of the head and single on the other. but it also missing the cam caps (i have been told these will transfer from my b18c4 head??? but im not holding my breath)
will this be a decent upgrade to my mb6 with a dc2 ITR bottom end, if not will the cams be any advantage over my standard b18c4 cams?
The head has stamped on it PR3-1 (which i think is NOT a GSR, and its dated 1997)

Thanks in advance for your help folks

Will i still need to upgrade the valvetrain to allow for more aggressive cams? and what about the cam caps, can i interchange with my b18c4 parts?
if nothing is of any use to my mb6, springs, valves etc i will just sell the head on
Thanks again, any info is much appreciated
if you swap cam caps i would have a machine shop check out the journals because each set of cam caps is machined perfectly to each head and yours more than likely will not line up with the next head and cause came seizing/scoring unless you have it line bored
I don't think you should remove the cam caps from your head and modify them to fit this one. I think you should just rebuild your current head and sell this one for parts. Either that, or find another incomplete/damaged head to score the cam caps for the new purchase. As stated previously, it will still require machining in order to work.
Rebuilding a cylinder head to factory specs doesn't take very much time and a competent machine shop could complete the work within one week. In that process, it's just as much effort to reinstall the original valve springs as it is to install aftermarket ones.
The real world difference between GS-R and B16a cams is negligible.

Your cam caps will not work. To get the camcaps lined bored to work you need to find a competent machine shop first. Second you need to shell out more money than you paid for the head. Not worth it IMO. The seller suckered you.

oh well alot of other people say it can be done but if it will cause possible problems then im not going to do it, i only paid £100 for the whole lot so i will surely make the money back selling it on.
The reason i bought the head was so i could have it all rebuilt, ported & polished and any other work needed, then just swap heads with my own.
I cant really have alot of downtime on my car as it my daily and have no 2nd car for getting to work.
I guess i will just have to source a complete head,
Thank you for your help, i guess we all learn from our mistakes

If it makes you feel any better, the price, converted to USD, isn't all that bad all things considered. The misc parts, like the valves, LMAs, etc., could be worth something. The head casting would be great for someone who wants to practice diy porting.
I wouldn't consider it a bad purchase, necessarily. Just not what you need.
Good luck.
