Default coolant hose to idle motor

Why does the idle motor have a coolant hose to it? I bypassed by FITV successfully a long time ago and originally I eliminated the coolant to the idle motor and everything was cool if I remember right. But the question of why kept bothering me so I put the coolant hose back to the idle motor still bypassing the FITV, still no problems. Here it is a year later and it's bothering me again. Anyone know with certainty? If I'm going to bypass the FITV, I might as well take the coolant away from the whole intake manifold and not have it going to the idle motor if its only there to prevent freezing in cold climates.
