Default Converting JDM B16A to OBDI

OK I'm having all sorts of problems and OBD0 isn't helping me diagnose them. I'd like to convert to OBDI. What is the bare minimum I can get by on for this conversion? I'll handle the wiring myself without a conversion harness.

I know I'd need a P28 ECU. I'd also get this chipped to Hondata S200 specs so it can handle the B16A. Also a distributor - but for what engine?

Help please

You have a nonOBD chassis I assume correct... I made a nonOBD-OBD1 jumper the other day for my friend's 88 Rex and chipped his P28... I also rewired the engine loom to accept his OBD2 B18C motor... As for the parts you'll need... OBD1/2 distributor that you mentioned... I rewired the injectors to run the OBD2 ones but there is no need to do this... You can just bypass the resistor box and run your nonOBD ones... Besides that there isn't a whole lot too it... Also nonOBD and OBD1 alternators are the same so you won't have to convert anything there.... Here are some pics of my friend's jumper and wiring harness... Good Luck!!
The stripped nonOBD motor loom which I already wired for MPI when I originally did the swap for his B16A

Wired up with the OBD2 connectors (distributor and injectors)

The chipped P28, nonOBD-OBD1 jumper, and the finished harness

Man you need to hook up some slicks... My friend Mike (jdmDXrex) who I just made this conversion stuff for had his B16A until the thrust washer fell out and destroyed the bottom end.. That's why he's got his B18C now... Anyways with his old motor, completely stock... stock airbox, stock header, and a 2.5" exhaust, ACT HD/6 puck clutch, and MT 20x6x14 slicks he ran a 13.52@101... You should be able to get there easy... With his new motor we're hoping to hit ~11.80's... Guess we'll see in a few weeks... Peace

i did the same thing on my jdm b16 used a 97? gsr dizzy, aftermarket high impedance injectors (removed resistor box and connected all the injector (red/black?) wires to the yellow/black from the ecu), umm a 4wire o2 sensor from a junkyard civic, i think that was it i always forget what i did to my car its hard to keep track.

Any obd1 or obd2 B16 dizzy will work. I used a obd2 one and repined my crx plug onto it.

So a USDM distributor from a del Sol VTEC or Civic SiR, probably need to get a heated O2 sensor... You say the stock injectors will work? Aren't they low-impedance units, while the ECU expects high-impedance?

Yes, stock injectors will work tho i don't recommend it... When using stock injectors which I don't use a lot I prefer OBD2 because I like the connectors for them... They just look the cleanest and they are very very easy to release... With nonOBD or low impedance/peak hold injectors their extra resistance is not built in them... That's why you run the in line resistor box... When you remove that you basically have standard high impedance injectors which can be wired up to an OBD1/2 ECU... NO PROBLEM... I would recommend swapping to OBD1/2 injectors just for the sake that they were designed to run with the OBD1/2 ECU... If you don't wanna spend the money or time to swap to the newer units as I said before just rewire out the resistor box connector... Sorry I forgot to mention the 4 pin heated oxygen sensor... Atleast toyosupr remembered Good Luck
EDIT: I also just now forgot to add that you can use any OBD1/2 DOHC VTEC distributor... B16A/B18C, they're all the same....

same here.... dont use the obd0 injectors with a obd1/2 ecu it will burn the ecu up after awhile. i dont think that obd0 injectors with a resistor box work with a obd1/2 ecu either so get aftermarket or other honda high impedence injectors. test them with a ohm meter (multimeter) if your not sure about it. injector should read around 12, those are the ones you want to use

The obd0 injectors worked fine for me till I swiched to the obd1 type. You just keep the resistor box with the obd0 and all is good.
