Default Compression test waaaay too low, why?

Stock GSR motor. I just did a compression test and got: 60 61 61 60 Car starts and runs fine.

Just so we're all on the same page heres what I did: Warmed up car to normal operating temp. Shut off car. Pulled 15A fuse. Pulled wires and plugs. Threaded in the compression tester hand tight. Gas pedal at WOT. Cranked pulley til the gauge stopped (about 7-10 times) What did I do wrong? Is my motor "F"ed? Do you think my gauge is off? It reads in pounds per square inch and kilopascals.

Dose the car drive ok? if you truley had that low of compression, i would think it would barley start, and drive like crap, if at all. I would try another compression tester. The only thing i am thinking, is you have to be carefull when pulling plugs out of a hot alluminum cylinder head, im hoping you didint strip the threading out at all causing a slight leak. it looks like you performed the test properly, disabled fuel, took out all spark plugs from all cylinders, and made sure it was at WOT. you really only have to crank it 5 times though.
FYI, the minimal compression requirment is 135 psi, new it should be around 270 psi, shouldnt have variation more than 28psi between cylinders.

I was using a brand new $20 Actron comp tester. Maybe its just a piece of junk. Its good that the cylinders are only off by 1, but too damn low. I hope it was just the gauge and not my motor. But yes, car starts and runs fine.

I would have to say it is defnitly the compression tester then. See if you can borrow a better one from a buddy, or most auto zones/pepboys/ect.. lend them out. goodluck man

when you say "cranked pulley till guage stopped" did you turn the motor over by hand or what?

i almost thought that at first two, but i assumed when he said that he disabled fuel he knew to crank it with the starter/ignition

an engine wont run for **** if at all if u have less than a hundred pounds in each cylinder. id say its the gauge

If it was actually 60 61 61 60 it could be cam timing but there is no way it would run

i still think he tried turning it by hand if the results were really that low it would obviously run like *** and if it was that bad i cant see how it would be possible for each cylinder to be that close??????

Like stated before if your number were really that low your car would probably run like ****. Those number are pretty close to each other so its probably going to be your gauge on the tester. Take that **** back.

How would he hold the gas pedal at WOT if hand cranking? Yeah he could just turn the throttle by hand too, but he said gas pedal. Not to mention he did everything else right so it is probably safe to assume he knew what he was doing.

OP: I would think it was the gauge too, but you should probably try retesting, dropping a tiny bit of oil in each cylinder when you test it, just to be sure.
Does the tester have the pushbutton valve for pressure release? Maybe that is leaking?

I dont think doing a wet compression test is going to change the numbers too much, it has to be the guage

its prolly not the gauge itself, but the extension w/ the check valve
