Compression test with engine out?
i was just wondering if it was possible to do a compression test with the engine out. The other day i decided to do a compression test on my 01 gsr swap cause im waiting for parts, so i set the test up and cranked it 10 times by hand, my readings were really really low, im hoping this is because the engine was cold and i wasnt turning fast enough. Should i be worried, my readings were like 65 on all 4.
let me know if i have a problem.
you can jump the started to turn the motor over and that should be bale to spin it fast enoguh to get a good result. but its best to have in the car.
did you do it with the throttle open?
I dont know if cranking speed is a factor, but your #'s are even all across the board so thats good

yes you definantly need to have the throttle plate open fully to get the proper readings, as mentioned above. also the rings need to be fully heated and expanded to get a good seal, so if the motor is sitting on an engine stand and can't be turned over to run/idle than the readings won't be correct.
i'm sure you'll get much more than 65 psi on all 4 cylinders when it's done correctly. at least it's consistent between all the cylinders though. that's a good sign.
