Default Compression test analysis

Cyl 1 - 310, cyl 2 - 310, cyl 3 - 275, cyl 4 - 310

Opinions?

Engine - LSVTEC w/ ITR head & CTR pistons.

Dry or wet?

Wet, test done after car was driven.

something is definetly wrong in the no. 3 cyl. variance between cylinders shouldn't be more than 20 psi IIRC.

Was told it could possibly be valve adjustment - no oil burn and spark plug for no. 3 looks great, like all the others.

when he asked if wet he meant if you poured a teaspoon of oil in the cylinder and then measure the compression, this will tell you if it is rings, if you say is valve out of adjustment sounds fair, do it and measure compression.

No, I didn't put oil in the cylinders. Would that raise pressure reading, or lower it?

if is ring it should bring the compression up at least a lil, if is not then compression should remain around the same

Thanks for clarifying. I'm not worried about it that much though... I hardly burn oil.

oil in the cylinder doesnt tell you anything, adding anything to the cylinder is gonna raise PSI. Yes a valve adjustment might bring it up but maybe 15 psi at the most, if it even needs adjustment.

Well, I'd definatly go with a valve adjustment first and see what happens. I always heard it will only help it a little bit but it helped me a ton. I'm running a built B16A (boosted) and I was getting these numbers:

140-158-158-170

Did it several times, did the oil trick and all the compression #'s shot up about 20psi. So I did a valve adjustment and came out with these numbers:

160-165-165-175

Still kind of odd why I have one that's so high lol but as you can see, it definatly helped me a great deal. I should probably adjust it again one of these days since I didn't have much time when I did adjust them (adjusted them pretty quickly so I know a few might be a tad off still which probably wont make much of a difference anyways). I just adjusted them to stock specs (.007 exhaust, .006 intake).

This is just from my experience, and it might not even have anything to do with your problem but oh well, figured I'd share the info cuz I was pulling my hair with the first compression #'s.
