Can anyone tell me what code 23 really means?

When I say this, I mean is it a malfunction of the knock sensor, or is it a ping out code?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

 

Your knock sensor is screwed. Try to get a 2nd hand replacement.

 

The reason I asked is because the person I am helping out said that the CE light didn't come on but he checked to see if the ECU thew out a code and it was code 23. I was wondering if the ECU logs minor problems without showing the CE Light? I think the car pinged out but not sure. The person is running higher than normal compression and suddenly ran into a problem. If it did ping out then technically the car doesn't have a real problem. It just pinged out and the timing retarted itself. Doesn't it run that way for a while and then try and go back to normal operation. Or when the car pings out, does it go directly to "limp mode". If it goes directly to limp, that would show the CE light. Correct?

I don't know much about the ECU codes other than what they are. And for the part which they are associated with.

I don't know if a minor problem logs as a code and a major problem brings up the CE light and logs a code..

I know that with GM ( only know because I used to own one)( and will never own another one) that a minor problem flashes the CE light and a major problem keeps it constanly on. But don't know if that applies to Honda's.
