Default Clutch master cylinders, how does this work?

I no how the clutch master cylinder works and all, but I am a little confused on this adjustment nut that is on the master cylinder

now are you ever supposed to adjust the pedal feel with this nut or are you supposed to leave it alone, and never touch it. No one can tell me what this nut is used for, any help would be appreciated thanks
