Default changing tranny fluid...

I followed c-speedracing.com's instructions on how to change the transmission fluid...when I filled it up, all the fluid just dripped out the bottom where the axles go...is the transmission supposed to be sitting right side up(like it is when its bolted into the motor)? or is it supposed to be positioned like this,

Exactly enough to make it spill out the fill hole (when when the tranny is on the car) I think it's around 2.2 quarts dry?
